History:

History is defined by what you are.

You are here because of your history.

The city of the beloved sun.

There are plenty of things to do in Maracaibo, and if you don’t know what Maracaibo is, well, let me tell you a little bit of it. Maracaibo is one of the richest cities in the world due to the Maracaibo Lake that has an immense oil reserve created about 40 million years ago when all the land, know now as the lake, sank. Maracaibo has a peculiar name, there is a story related to the fight the Indian tribes, the Wayu, had against the Germans around the year 1529, this story is said that there was one fierce Wayu warrior who gave his life as a hero in order to defend his sacred land, he was deeply praised among all he knew and respected even to the opposite side. This warrior was Mara and when he was killed in that colonization battle, his allied, intensely hurt, mourned aloud his name “Mara-cayo…Mara-cayo!” giving the name Maracaibo. Another story is about the ancient name the Wayu had for it, for them it was “Maara-iwo” translated means “place where serpents feast”.

This place where serpent feast has not change a bit, nowadays there is still that Darwin’s theory the survival of the fittest. Of course, in Maracaibo there are million of things to do, there are historical places to visit, commercial shopping mall to relax and release some endorphins if you are a mall addict, good universities to study what the city needs and any other distraction. For some reason corruption has made it almost impossible to believe in its magnificent culture. Corruption has invaded into all its habitant and corrupted their souls.

Maracaibo is still a virgin place to go a help their natives to become what they were before they were corrupted by the apathy and ambition of their actions; greed, the power and control of that oil’s money and drug trafficking has made it impossible to live in. The streets, in the darkest of their active spectrum, are praying for more people to rise, light up their hope and fight with the shadows of oppression like Mara did once, this time by lecturing the youngster about their future and the magnitude of education.

Education is the key to progress and change, once children know how to read, information will follow like gravity and find the world needed to sustain life. As one can imagine, life was not created easily in one day.

Maracaibo, as any other city, has the heroes that are the hearth of their culture, be a part of your culture by becoming one.
